Cecel Allee - A Wooden Masterpiece

Apr 03, 2012 | By

It's never too early to teach your children the beauty of art. Whether the piece is created with crayons or watercolors by them, or with the skilled hand of a professionally trained artist, every scene and medium tells a story. It brings simple scenes to life, lets us escape into a dream world for just a moment, and constantly reminds us of the joy in life. Why then, wouldn't you choose the perfect piece of art to display in your child's nursery or bedroom?

Cecel Allee

For the fans of all masterpieces, traditional and non-traditional, we're excited to introduce our newest talented artist, Cecel Allee. Hailing from Georgia, Allee's work displays her appreciation of the rustic and natural, incorporating environmental elements such as birds, flowers and trees in the most whimsical of ways. Each subject is painted in a creatively abstract manner, bringing extra life to the normal replicas of nature's finest elements. Additionally, Cecel Allee breathes fresh life into each of her works through the use of a quite unusual backdrop that is not the traditional canvas: wood. If you're looking for a touch of whimsy for your little one's room, this is the perfect wall hanging to bring their little imaginations to life.

All Boy: Our Favorite Color Schemes

Mar 28, 2012 | By

Boys will be boys...isn't that how the saying goes? If you're expecting boys you had better get used to hearing that; and you had better get used to blue, blue and more blue! Even though you might be able to get away with aqua, white, light blue and some green for the nursery (providing dad approves!), you'll be needing some all-boy inspiration when the "big boy" room rolls around.

Here are some of our favorite "all boy" color schemes. They would even work if dad wants a macho, boy nursery, too!

More Provence Tones Color Scheme

Keep things a little softer while still adding a masculine touch. Throw in some unique industrial elements (think dresser hardware and light fixtures) to really amp this up.

Yellow Infusion Color Scheme

Go bold!! Yellow is huge right now, and a touch of it here and there really pops off dark blues.

Swimmingly Bright Color Scheme

Sticking with more traditional boy colors, the orange really brightens up the blues and adds an unexpected pop of color.

Tin Tones Color Scheme

This just may be our personal favorite! We love the soft browns, deep blues as well as the lighter touches. Think rustic metal accessories and you have yourself a room that will grow with your boys for a loooong time!

Boating Blues Color Scheme

Okay, so we just can't give up the teals and aquas...can you blame us? Cool grey walls would be a great way to pop the different shades of blue.

What do you think? How are you decorating your "boy" rooms?

Girly Girl

Mar 19, 2012 | By

Remember when we posted our favorite neutral color schemes for the nursery? Well, if you're planning to go all-girl we pulled together a great list for you. And if you're just wanting a splash of girl here and there, these are great jumping off points!

Macro Bloom Color Scheme

Punch up the pinks with bold fuchsias and cool turquoise.

 Shelled Tones Color Scheme

Dream of the beach as you rock for your 5th hour straight in the rocking chair. This cool and calm color scheme is one you won't tire of quickly.

Lavendar Fields Color Scheme

When you think lavender bedroom you might be scared into thinking back to great grandma Joane's house...but by deepening the hues and adding a pop of green you'll definitely be decorating for the 21st century. You could even use the purples as accent colors and base the room around the neutral beige.

Chi Tones Color Scheme

If you're not quite ready to let your inner design diva out, this is a great neutral color scheme that still packs punch. It's definitely a color scheme that can grow with your sweet baby girl into her "big girl" room.

Sliced Tones Color Scheme

These rich colors are definitely stepping outside the box when it comes to the nursery. Your baby girl will have no problem getting cozy in a room full of deep, rich purples and pinks. The pop of green sure does brighten things up!

Pink Air Color Scheme

Take the traditional route and go all pink. Even though you're sticking with tradition, the pinks shown above lean a little bit towards the unexpected with their hints of purple and grey.

So, what's your nursery color scheme? Is it out of the norm or totally traditional?
