It's A...

Girl? Boy? Are you dying to know? How about revealing the gender of the baby at a "gender reveal party"?

It's the latest trend and it's gaining momentum as more and more couples opt to share the news at a party devoted especially to the baby. Any excuse for a celebration, right?!

If you're planning on throwing a gender reveal party there are few things you need to know so you can plan the perfect surprise. We just finished throwing a reveal party for Megan, one of the gals at Bella Vita (it's a girl, by the way!), so here's what we learned:

gender reveal party invitation
Find cute invites. Make sure to keep them gender neutral so you don't put ideas into anyone's head! We used Tiny Prints and were very happy with the service and designs.

reveal party cupcakes
The biggest thing is probably deciding how to reveal the gender. One idea is to have a cake baked with either a pink or blue center and when mom and dad cut into it everyone will get to see the outcome. Another way (and our favorite!) is to have cupcakes made that are pink or blue inside. That way, everyone at the party gets to bite into their own cupcake and find out the gender.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure the icing is a gender-neutral color so it doesn't give away the surprise! We favored green, yellow and orange. But turquoise and red would be good colors to throw into the mix as well.

If you're throwing the party (or in charge of the cake/cupcakes) make sure mom and dad give you the envelope from the ultrasound. The doctor should have written the gender (or included an ultrasound picture) for mom and dad to give to you. Note to moms and dads: don't peek during the ultrasound! You wouldn't want to ruin your own surprise!

Mom and Dad Reveal
The longer you keep the guests waiting, the more suspenseful it becomes! Plan a couple of games that require the guests to choose sides. Have them hold up pictures of the mom or dad as a baby so they can show what "team" they are on, or have them write baby names to declare their team.

Lastly, make sure you have someone working the camera and video. You won't want to forget mom and dad's reaction when they bite into their cake!

We love the idea of a gender reveal party because it builds the same level of surprise and excitement as waiting until the baby is born...but without the waiting part!

Happy party planning!

St. Patty's Day!

Mar 17, 2011 | By
Why not take advantage of all the holidays the calendar has to offer! Grab the kids and bake, make or create green-related items to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

We're celebrating St. Patrick's Day at Itty Bitty Bella too. Stop by the store wearing green on Thursday, March 17 and we'll give you 15% off one item!! (Some exceptions apply, one discount per family)

If you're looking for a fun, easy and yummy treat (besides the classic "green eggs and ham), here's a favorite of the Itty Bitty Bella girls. Marshmallows and popcorn together- who can resist?!

St. Patrick's Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

12 cups Popped Popcorn
1/3 cup Butter (and a little extra to grease your hands)
10 oz. Marshmallows- large or small, it doesn't matter
4 Tbsp Lime Gelatin

Place your popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl and set aside. Make sure the  mixing bowl is big enough to stir the popcorn around. You will need the room later on!

Melt the marshmallows and butter together on the stove over medium heat.  If you prefer, you can melt them in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 min.  Stir to completely melt the marshmallows once they are done in the microwave.

Stir the lime gelatin into the marshmallow mixture. Stir until it is mostly dissolved. (Note: the gelatin will not completely dissolve, so don't worry about granules in the mixture)

Pour the marshmallow mixture over the top of the popped popcorn and mix until evenly coated.

Grease your hands with the additional butter and shape the popcorn mixture into 3" balls.

Wrap individual popcorn balls in plastic wrap until ready to eat.

We love the idea of mixing all these different flavors and textures together into one snack- crunchy, gooey, sweet and tangy (lime!). They are great treats to pack in lunch boxes, take to neighbors or snack on after school.

Enjoy!

An Itty Bitty Fairytale

Feb 02, 2011 | By
Once upon a time…

There once was a girl who had flights of fancy. She enjoyed the loveliest of all things and treasured each one for its beauty and uniqueness. She had big dreams and always wondered where the next one would carry her.

Lo and behold, along her journey she came upon a store named, aptly enough, Bella Vita—the Beautiful Life. It was the perfect way in which she could express her style and share her unique finds with those she loved.

Soon, people were traveling from far and wide to enjoy Bella Vita, and the girl was very happy for a very long time. But all the while an itty-bitty voice inside her kept saying that something was missing to complete this chapter in her story.

And what was that “something”? A new store for little ones—beautiful things for their growing, learning, playing, lovable lives. Unique, must-have things that could not be found anywhere nearby. And so, she began scouring the markets, searching for just the right items to put into this new store—beautiful little items for new babies and young children.

Lucky for us, that itty-bitty voice finally was given a name—on a storefront. And so the next chapter begins—Itty Bitty Bella
.

itty bitty bella

Ah, my friends, if life we’re only as carefree as this fairytale. (It’s the fairytale version of my life, I like to believe!) But then real life wouldn’t be nearly as bountiful and eventful—and what an event we have upcoming.

In early spring, the girls and I at Bella Vita are opening Itty Bitty Bella, a store for the “little beauties” in our lives. It will be located one store down from Bella Vita, in the shop south of Eclectic Eye. Plans are underway to open in March.

The name is in homage to the “itty bitties” we know and love, and to the art of creating beautiful environments where we will watch them play, learn, sleep, eat, smile, explore and grow.

Think classic with a splash of whimsy; quality with a smattering of fashionable fancy. Timeless yet adaptable. Itty Bitty Bella will offer endearing baby shower gifts, exclusive bedding, charming lamps, rugs, art, clothing that will hold up effortlessly, travel and on-the-go-gear, even jewelry for moms who might need a pick-me-up or affirmation every now and then.

Strollers by UPPA Baby and Peg Perego. Cribs by Corsican. Onesies by Kissy Kissy. And so much more. Most everything you could want—and wants for most everything (think gift “wants” and baby-shower registry!)—for your child’s room and life.

Itty Bitty Bella will go beyond the traditional baby and toddler boutique. We like to think of it as a fresh, crisp perspective on products that are already charming in of themselves. We promise, Itty Bitty Bella will have the same warm, enveloping feel as Bella Vita, just with a younger twist.

I guess fairytales really do have happy endings.

So tell your friends, family, even a stranger or two!—the girls and I at Bella Vita are expecting a new arrival this spring. Itty Bitty Bella, welcome to the family.
