Get to Know...

Aug 09, 2011 | By
All too soon our little meet-and-greet is coming to an end with this, our last group of gals who make it happen every day at Bella Vita and Itty Bitty Bella. We hope you’ve enjoyed learning about who we are, where we’re from and what makes us happy.

What makes your heart sing?

We want to know. Stop by either store and visit with us. We’re always ready to help with a smile, a warm hello and helpful advice to make your home a beautiful.

Laurie Losorwith

Without Laurie Losorwith we’d be lost. Not only does she keep our books balanced and up to date, she runs all the back office/warehouse operations, including the most important job of all—our payroll! If that wasn’t enough, she also builds many of the displays we use (the wood pallets, the tree at Itty Bitty Bella; she also wired the chicken-coupe lights and mason-jar lights at Bella Vita. I’m afraid if HGTV found out about her, they’d be calling, and then where would we be!?!)

Hometown: San Mateo, California

Hobbies: Horses, sewing and crafts

Go-to clothing/favorite piece of jewelry: Island Cowgirl Rose gold heart necklace and my three gold/silver bracelets that I have collected on various trips.
Last book read: The Blind Side

Favorite TV Show: Covert Affairs. In fact, I recently named my new Yorkshire puppy after Piper Perabo.

What’s unique about me: I enjoy learning new skills, like woodworking, wood-finishing techniques, fabric applications—the list goes on.

What I love about Bella Vita: I enjoy creating the displays and décor fixtures at both stores. (Oh, and staying out of trouble with the bosses!)

Kathrine Snider

Kathrine Snider is our design guru in waiting. (Well, she’s already a design maven in our book, but she’ll really move into high display gear when she covers for Megan while she’s out on maternity leave.) Kathrine floats between Bella Vita and Itty Bitty Bella, working on the sales floors, keeping our displays straightened and attractive, placing orders, and more.

Hometown: San Antonio, Texas.

Hobbies: Traveling and anything Alpha Delta Pi. I love going to new places and back home to Texas.

Go-to clothing/favorite piece of jewelry: My Ellen Hays knot necklace. It goes with everything.
Last great movie: Captain America. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

Favorite TV: Pawn Stars I love watching what they bring in and seeing how much it’s worth.

What’s unique about me: I’m a home-furnishings major at the University of Memphis. And I hope to move back to Texas one day.

What I love about Bella Vita: It’s always fun going to work. Here I can put what I’m learning in school into practice, and find new, refreshing ways to make create displays.

Brittany Thompson

Brittany stays busy working at Bella Vita full time on our sales floor, helping customers, placing orders and making sure everyone is just as happy when they go out as when they come into our store.

Hometown: I am a native Memphian and currently reside in Germantown. (Just because I tend to have a “neutral” accent does not mean I’m not a Southerner!)

Hobbies: Well, I am definitely a foodie and you’ll find me at wine tastings too. I love to eat, cook and basically play in the kitchen. I also enjoy playing golf, riding my bicycle (when it’s not scorching hot outside) and walking my dog, Rudy.

Go-to clothing/favorite piece of jewelry: In the fall and winter, you will definitely see me sporting argyle. I tend to be more minimal in jewelry but I have to wear my watch every day and, of course, my wedding rings.

Last book read: Every month, I read my Southern Living, and the last book I read was Haunted Charleston. Besides cookbooks, I tend to read historical, political or sports-related books.

Favorite TV: I always watch House, NCIS and Glee, and Fox & Friends in the morning.
What’s unique about me: Well, I met Chris, my husband, while practicing my short game at Memphis National Golf Course, and I’m an avid listener of Frank Sinatra.

What I love about Bella Vita: I enjoy being around all the girls at Bella Vita and Itty Bitty Bella. It’s great getting to know all the loyal (and new) customers and meeting many of the artists whose work we have in Bella Vita. And who doesn’t love helping people shop?

Well that’s our fabulous line up. Our blogs about the girls simply don’t do them justice. They have so many more talents and creative energies, and are so hard-working. I guess you’ll just have to find out more for yourself by stopping in to visit with us.

Truly, I’m lucky to have them on staff and count them as my friends, and we’re lucky to have you as a Bella Vita customer.

Until I see you again,

The Girls are Back!

Aug 02, 2011 | By
We’ve had so much fun telling you about ourselves—the interesting, the everyday, the sweet, the silly, the fashionable, the fun.

Here’s our latest group of Bella Vita ladies. Hopefully, you’ll find out something about each one of them that brings you a little inspiration and to Bella Vita to share!

And stay tuned. We have one more fabulous group of gals coming your way in an upcoming blog. Keep looking and keep reading …

Megan McNeely, this high-energy, fun-loving gal helps with both stores’ visuals and displays, and sets up our show booths. She also manages the bridal registry, handles the appointments and maintains each bride’s file. On top of all that, she assists with daily store operations and to-dos. She’s been working hard for us for three years.

Hometown: Right here in Memphis

Hobbies:  Right now? Preparing for our baby girl. (Lyla June is due August 26.) Others include singing and busting out a move every now and then.

Go-to clothing/must-have jewelry? My Debbie Segal earrings. They are so elegant, yet simple and can spice up any outfit, dressy or casual.

Last movie seen: True Grit

Favorite TV: GLEE!  Yes, call me a Gleek!

What’s unique about me:  I can touch my tongue to my nose and I can make some killer chicken and dumplings. So Southern through and through.

What I love about Bella Vita: I love the relationships I have built through Bella Vita. The girls are wonderful to work with; they keep me thinking and feeling creatively. I get a boost being there, for sure. Also, our customers are some of the best.

Brittany Johnson worked in our stores until she and her husband moved to New Mexico recently. Sad for us but glad she can help keep us up and running long distance, writing blogs and helping with website maintenance. This girl is Texas through and through. She’s fun to be around—even from far away—and we’re all secretly jealous because she always looks like an Anthropologie model.

Brittany Johnson
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas, home of the Alamo! I’m one of those proud Texans and will probably talk your ear off about it.

Hobbies: First and foremost, shopping. It’s a bit of a running joke that I have a problem but, hey, everyone has their vices, right? I am also fashion-obsessed. If you haven’t heard from me, it’s probably because I’m holed up reading fashion magazines, blogs or watching streaming videos of the latest runway shows. I also love art, yoga and music. I would be perfectly content spending every weekend at a music festival.

Go-to clothing/must-have jewelry: Leggings, my go-to uniform for almost any season. Who doesn’t love an item that still feels like you’re in your pajamas? Plus, everyone looks cute in them when you throw on a flowing top or dress and boots to complete the outfit.

Last book read: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I’m incredibly proud of myself for sticking this one out. I typically struggle with long, detailed books due to my great inability to sit still for more than 30 minutes.

Favorite TV: It’s a tie between Glee and Dexter. Strange combo, I know. One feeds my love of the arts and music (OK, drama) while the other let’s me get in touch with my dark side. That’s right, even my bubbly self has a dark and twisty persona.

What’s unique about me: I was a competitive gymnast growing up, and my middle name is Noel because I was born on Christmas. (This is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with my love of gifts, though my husband may tell you otherwise.)

What I love about Bella Vita: The fun and funky style of the accessories, and the earthy look of the home decor. Each item is unique so I can be sure I won’t see my twin when walking down the street!

Cheryl Wood is our lifesaver. When it comes to handling shipments, she can unpack and process shipments faster than anyone. Cheryl is most often behind the scenes getting new items processed, priced and ready to go on the floor. We’d be in big trouble if we didn’t have her, especially when it’s floor-to-ceiling boxes when the holiday lovelies start to arrive.

Hometown: The South. I’m just a good ole Southern Girl! I was born in Atlanta, Ga., moved to Germantown at age 6, then to Eads where I lived until my husband, Chris, and I moved to Olive Branch Miss. There, we raised our girls for 18 years. For the past three years, we’ve lived in Collierville.

Hobbies: I’ve really become a people person from the shy girl I was growing up so, anything I can do to help others is an enjoyable time for me. I also enjoy designing with flowers, both fresh and artificial.

Go-to clothing/must-have jewelry: At home, it’s all about being comfy, so it’s into my pajamas. When I’m out, I’m usually in jeans and any comfortable, cute T-shirt. Jewelry: My Vintage Gypsy necklace and/or earrings.

Last book read: I just finished Leaving by Karen Kingsbury and am into the next book in the series, Learning. I got hooked on Karen Kingsbury about 10+ years ago after reading One Tuesday Morning the first in the 9/11 series. I’m always anxiously waiting for her next books to be released.

Favorite TV: Just one? I’m not sure I can pick. Let’s see, NCIS, NCIS LA, Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory are at the top of the list.

What’s unique about me: My husband and I always have a date night every weekend. I love to travel. He and I have been scuba-certified since September 2009 and are one checkout dive from becoming master divers. Yes, I’ve been diving with sharks, but the beauty of God’s creation under the sea is so incredible it overcomes all fears. I love to ride on the back of my husband’s motorcycle and travel with our motorcycle group from church.

What I love about Bella Vita: What is there not to love about Bella Vita?! I love the camaraderie that exists between everyone who works at Bella Vita, as well as the team effort and the friendliness that we all share.

I hope you're getting to know these girls as well as I do! They are all a blast!

Sweet Bundles of Baby Joy!

Aug 01, 2011 | By
We’re proud as ever to announce the newest addition to Itty Bitty Bella: Bundles. A whole lot of great information bundled into one event, this in-store seminar series brings in the local experts to discuss the latest in baby- and toddler-care products and gear, and parenting and childcare tips.

Bundles will be held every second Thursday of the month at Itty Bitty Bella at 10 o’clock am. So mark your calendars. And don’t forget to bring the hubbie, grandmas, friends and anyone else you think needs to be here.

First up in our Bundles series on Thursday, Aug. 11. at 10AM is Jennifer Brown from Baby Wearers of Memphis. She’ll demonstrate how to safely and effectively use the Baby K’Tan and Ergo baby carriers. (Plus, as a little happy for all those attending, we’ll offer 15 percent off both carriers that day only for attendees.)

Other topics in the works include infant massage, lactation consultants, fitness during and after pregnancy, preserving precious memories…and so much more!

We’ve been wanting to put our Bundles series together ever since we opened Itty Bitty Bella’s doors. Makes perfect sense, don’t you think? After all, we’re not the kind of store (or people) that believes in simply selling you what you need.

We believe in getting you what you need.

Not just the gear and all the things that accompany baby, but also the resources and professionals who can provide advice and know-how to get you and your little one well on your way.

Whether it’s the highest-quality bedding and clothing, cribs, strollers, right down to the blankets you wrap your little bundles in. Even the best local childcare experts to help you better navigate the baby and toddler world—we’ll get them to you, once every month, right here at Itty Bitty Bella, and all in a neat, tight bundle of information.

So, stay tuned—more Bundles are in the making!

Hello, My Name Is...

Jul 26, 2011 | By
Well, Bella Vita is 10 years in now and quite frankly, it’s high time you get to know us beyond our names. And because a lot of the girls go between Bella Vita and Itty Bitty Bella, we're going to introduce everyone to you to.

Not simply as the Girls at Bella Vita, although it’s a fabulous gig, we must admit. Rather, who we are outside of work—our families, our hobbies, our reads and our homes, among other fun facts about ourselves. We think that what we do outside the store says a lot about what we do when we’re here.

So we’re opening up and letting you in—our Bella Vita friends. Perhaps we’ll find a few common threads along the way.

In the next few blogs, we’ll profile the ladies who make our stores so spectacular. Each one is so talented and capable.

Without further ado, let’s get acquainted.

A Bella Vita girl through and through, Cari Hale has been with us for two years. She definitely wears two hats, traveling between Bella Vita and Itty Bitty Bella, helping manage daily operations and our advertising and marketing.

Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Hobbies: Trying my hand at sewing right now. So far so good, although I’m certainly not a pro. I love to read; if I have a good book, that’s all I want to do. And any day I can attend an NHL hockey game is a good day. It’s in my Canadian blood.

Go-to clothing/must-have jewelry:
Right now, I’m loving my boyfriend jean capris. They are so comfy. But it really depends on the day, how I feel. My “apparel mood” changes with the wind. My jewelry? Pearl earrings. I wear them almost every day!

Last book read: Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Jodi Picoult’s latest, Sing You Home. She is my favorite author. I’ve read every one of her books and I not so patiently await a new one every year or so.

Favorite TV: I don’t spend a lot of time watching TV. But I do enjoy Grey’s Anatomy and Glee when I can catch them. I will admit that I watch Good Morning America—never the Today show—every morning while getting ready for work, and I always catch the first 15-20 minutes of LIVE! with Regis and Kelly before I have to leave.

What’s unique about me: Around the stores word is I talk funny and I’ll admit my accent changes all the time. Sometimes it’s Canadian, sometimes it’s just “Western U.S.” (I went to school in Idaho for four years and got a bachelor’s degree in interior design and architecture.) My husband dies when I come home from work talking Southern. But when I’m mad or really serious, it’s always Canadian!

What I love about Bella Vita & Itty Bitty Bella: The friendships and relationships, both with the girls and with our clients. I like to know more about our customers than simply their names—we all do. Oh, and I love to see new product when it comes into the store too. It’s like Christmas every day. Maybe Valentine’s Day is more appropriate—all the new items we carry are sweet eye candy!

And now, Miss Itty Bitty Bella herself, Kat Forrester. Kat is our real-life, in-house mom. She takes care of Itty Bitty Bella’s daily happenings and our baby registries. She also deftly handles all the appointments and record-keeping.

(Photography courtesy of Allison Rodgers Photography)

Hometown: Collierville. My parents still live in the same house in which I grew up, which I absolutely love.

Hobbies: First and foremost, my two wonderful children, Ethan (3) and Vivien (1). When I do get a moment alone, you’ll find me at Sheffield Antiques in Collierville looking for a piece of pottery or vintage cards. I also try to scrapbook whenever I can. In fact, I have an addiction to stationery. Yes, I admit it. Paper, stickers, good pens, Sharpies. It’s getting out of hand, which is why I have several books that are completed. They are time-consuming, however, which is why I have yet to complete Ethan’s second-year book. Each page takes about 30 minutes for me to complete.

Go-to clothing/must-have jewelry: Sundresses. So cool and comfy and perfect for covering a post-baby bod. Jewelry: My pearl earrings—a must almost every day. (Cari and I have great taste that way.) I also love turquoise jewelry.

Last book read: Elin Hilderbrand’s The Love Season. Also, love stories that take place in Nantucket. Just picked up Sharon Lathan’s Pride and Prejudice series to read—again.

Favorite TV: I’m really a movie kind of girl. If I do watch TV, it’s usually House Hunters on HGTV, any investigative reporting or my guilty pleasure, The Young and the Restless.

What’s unique about me: Justin, my husband, and I produced two of the sweetest, most well-behaved babies. Justin and I have made such a big point to teach our children manners. Last year at Ethan’s preschool, his teacher asked him where got such good manners. He replied, “From my Mommy.” (Smile of satisfaction from said mommy!) Justin will tell you that not hearing a “please,” “thank you” or “bless you” from the kids gets under my skin!

What I love about Bella Vita:
The girls I work with! We have the best group of gals, including our customers. That’s one reason we have such a loyal following among our customers. We get to know everyone. It sounds cliché but we are one big family. I also have to say the products. (I end up buying a lot of what we sell for me and my kids. We love all the fun, new products.)

Stay tuned for part two of our Bella Vita girl stories. Next time you’re in the store, strike up a conversation with one of us. Let us know your favorite books, hobbies and what you love about our store. Sharing information and ideas is what the Girls at Bella Vita are all about.

Until next time, enjoy many days of la bella vita, a beautiful life!
