Designing the Nest

Mar 21, 2011 | By Cari Hale
Trying to decide how to plan your nursery? You're mind might be over flowing with ideas, or you might be void of all creative inspiration...but either way you have roughly 9 months to get your nursery done. Seems like a long time...until you actually get to doing it!

To help you hit the ground running we've come up with a few nursery's that are creative, classy, modern and transitional. Make a list of what you love (and hate), narrow it down to "girl", "boy" or "neutral" and find that one piece that sets off the entire room. Some items that are perfect as inspiration pieces: crib bedding, glider upholstery, artwork, rug or fabric swatch (curtains, perhaps?)!

And, as always, bring your inspiration (or lack thereof) to Itty Bitty Bella and we'll help you pull together the perfect look using as much or as little time as you have!

Our favorite nursery? Maybe! The horizontal stripes are the perfect touch to a neutral color scheme and add interest without going bright and bold. And how cute is that pillow? (Hint, we've got it at Itty Bitty Bella!). With a couple color swaps this nursery would be ideal for either a boy or a girl.

Don't be afraid of using bold color and even bolder accents. Go ahead and get creative with your child's nursery...for a couple reasons: 1. They can't tell you they don't like it. 2. They're only a baby for a little while, so you don't have to feel guilty when you feel like changing directions and 3. You're the mom!

If bright, bold walls are not your thing (hate to paint?) then infuse the nursery with color and creativity using accent pieces that are not only easy to apply, but easily replaced when you're ready to update. We love how this family kept it "girly" with the salmon pink, but popped some unexpected yellow and orange to brighten things up!

If neutrals are your thing, and you just can't bring yourself to step outside your box, consider the nursery above. Classic, clean and simple. A plus to a neutral nursery? You're killing two (or more) birds with one stone because the colors, finishes and even some furniture can grow with your baby for years to come. Not a bad idea...

Sometimes finding cute ahem, manly, boy themes and products can be challenging. So when we see a well done nursery such as this- all boy,  a little edgy, and that can grow with them for a few years- we're all eyes! We love the pops of color, the clean lines and not-so-baby bedding and decor.

Does this help? We sure hope so! Feel free to ask us any questions along the way.

MD Moms

Mar 19, 2011 | By Cari Hale
Times are changing for the changing table. At least that what pediatrician moms Diane and JJ believe. And if you're sick of sneezing over baby powder, fighting with the diaper cream container, and oh yeah, packing a gazillion products in your diaper bag so that you're covered no matter what...then you believe it too.

After years of hearing the same skin-care complaints in their pediatric offices and years of raising little one's themselves, Diane and JJ finally put an end to lack luster infant skin care products- or at least offered up a better solution!

MD Moms combines a pediatrician's knowledge with a mother's instinct and wisdom to create a line of skin care products idea for baby's delicate skin.

MD Moms boasts...
  • Gentle, yet highly effective ingredients
  • Pure, natural ingredients
  • Hypoallergenic formula
  • Concentrated formulas- small does, big results
  • Protection from environmental damage
  • "Double-Duty" products
  • Easy, one-handed use
  • Modern aesthetics and design
  • Easily travels everywhere you do!

The cleansing towelettes keep baby clean from cheeks to cheeks! The alcohol-free blend of marine silk, vitamins E and B5, organic aloe and comfrey provides moisturizing and antioxidant benefits for you little ones. The ginger and chamomile in each wipe soothe and calm even the most irritated skin.

The gift set makes the perfect shower gift. The Moisturizing Balm, Soothing Bottom Relief and the Delicate Skin Comfort are the three basic products that will get you through almost anything!

The mixture of natural ingredients in the moisturizing balm are good enough to eat! The quick-absorbing, lightweight formula is ideal for maintaining the skin's natural moisture barrier. Shea butter, aloe, oat, avocado oil and other luxurious ingredients combine to make a lotion you will love using yourself. Don't worry, we won't tell!

Delicate Skin Comfort- Finally, a talc-free baby powder that will not have you sneezing and leaving a mess each time you use it! The liquid formula goes on like a lotion, but then quickly transforms into a silky dry powder to keep even the littlest of crevices dry and cool.

Diaper rash. Every baby gets it, nobody likes it. The Soothing Bottom Relief- a lightweight lotion that smooths on white then turns clear to protect, soothe, heal and moisturize little baby bottoms- will clear up even the worst case. No more diaper rash. Sound good? We thought so!

Kiss cradle cap goodbye! MD Moms Gentle Scalp Rub helps brush away flakes and scales that are associated with cradle cap. It's mild enough for everyday use to leave baby's scalp and hair clean, moisturized and soft.

As the summer sun starts to show it's face don't forget to protect both you and your baby. Skip the messy lotions that make for teary eyes and sticky skin. Instead give MD Moms Babysafe Sunscreen Towelettes a chance. You won't be disappointed! Don't worry about getting the right amount either- each towelette has enough sunscreen to cover the average 2 year old from head-to-toe.

Pop into Itty Bitty Bella to try all of the MD Moms products. Don't forget to stock the diaper bag and the nursery!

St. Patty's Day!

Mar 17, 2011 | By Cari Hale
Why not take advantage of all the holidays the calendar has to offer! Grab the kids and bake, make or create green-related items to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

We're celebrating St. Patrick's Day at Itty Bitty Bella too. Stop by the store wearing green on Thursday, March 17 and we'll give you 15% off one item!! (Some exceptions apply, one discount per family)

If you're looking for a fun, easy and yummy treat (besides the classic "green eggs and ham), here's a favorite of the Itty Bitty Bella girls. Marshmallows and popcorn together- who can resist?!

St. Patrick's Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

12 cups Popped Popcorn
1/3 cup Butter (and a little extra to grease your hands)
10 oz. Marshmallows- large or small, it doesn't matter
4 Tbsp Lime Gelatin

Place your popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl and set aside. Make sure the  mixing bowl is big enough to stir the popcorn around. You will need the room later on!

Melt the marshmallows and butter together on the stove over medium heat.  If you prefer, you can melt them in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 min.  Stir to completely melt the marshmallows once they are done in the microwave.

Stir the lime gelatin into the marshmallow mixture. Stir until it is mostly dissolved. (Note: the gelatin will not completely dissolve, so don't worry about granules in the mixture)

Pour the marshmallow mixture over the top of the popped popcorn and mix until evenly coated.

Grease your hands with the additional butter and shape the popcorn mixture into 3" balls.

Wrap individual popcorn balls in plastic wrap until ready to eat.

We love the idea of mixing all these different flavors and textures together into one snack- crunchy, gooey, sweet and tangy (lime!). They are great treats to pack in lunch boxes, take to neighbors or snack on after school.

Enjoy!
