It's A...

Girl? Boy? Are you dying to know? How about revealing the gender of the baby at a "gender reveal party"?
It's the latest trend and it's gaining momentum as more and more couples opt to share the news at a party devoted especially to the baby. Any excuse for a celebration, right?!
If you're planning on throwing a gender reveal party there are few things you need to know so you can plan the perfect surprise. We just finished throwing a reveal party for Megan, one of the gals at Bella Vita (it's a girl, by the way!), so here's what we learned:

Find cute invites. Make sure to keep them gender neutral so you don't put ideas into anyone's head! We used Tiny Prints and were very happy with the service and designs.

The biggest thing is probably deciding how to reveal the gender. One idea is to have a cake baked with either a pink or blue center and when mom and dad cut into it everyone will get to see the outcome. Another way (and our favorite!) is to have cupcakes made that are pink or blue inside. That way, everyone at the party gets to bite into their own cupcake and find out the gender.
Whatever you decide to do, make sure the icing is a gender-neutral color so it doesn't give away the surprise! We favored green, yellow and orange. But turquoise and red would be good colors to throw into the mix as well.
If you're throwing the party (or in charge of the cake/cupcakes) make sure mom and dad give you the envelope from the ultrasound. The doctor should have written the gender (or included an ultrasound picture) for mom and dad to give to you. Note to moms and dads: don't peek during the ultrasound! You wouldn't want to ruin your own surprise!

The longer you keep the guests waiting, the more suspenseful it becomes! Plan a couple of games that require the guests to choose sides. Have them hold up pictures of the mom or dad as a baby so they can show what "team" they are on, or have them write baby names to declare their team.
Lastly, make sure you have someone working the camera and video. You won't want to forget mom and dad's reaction when they bite into their cake!
We love the idea of a gender reveal party because it builds the same level of surprise and excitement as waiting until the baby is born...but without the waiting part!
Happy party planning!
